SCIENCE - BUSINESS FORUM: NANOTECHNOLOGY IN MEDICINE, 13.09.2018

The "Science - Business Forum: Nanotechnology in Medicine", co-financed by the European Union under the European Regional Development Fund Measure 1.3 IOB Professionalization under the Regional Operational Program for the Silesian Voivodeship for 2014-2020 took place in the Novotel Hotel in Katowice on September 13, 2018. The event was organized by Polymer and Carbon Material Center (CMPW PAN), the Silesian University in Katowice, the Non-ferrous Metal Institute and the NANONET Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Support Foundation, forming the Regional Specialized Nanotechnology and Nanomaterial Observatory consortium. The purpose of the forum was to initiate cooperation between scientific and research centers and the business world, with focus on nanotechnology and nanomaterials, as well as to promote knowledge on the potential of nanotechnology in Silesia. The presence of 120 people prove the need for a discussion between science and business.

The Forum was moderated by Prof. Andrzej Dworak, the director of the Polymer and Carbon Material Center (CMPW PAN). The forum focused on both scientific and business issues, elaborating on the practical aspects and the cooperation of these two environments.

The Forum included lectures delivered by the following distinguished guests:

prof. dr. hab. Krzysztof Szczubiałka (Jagiellonian University) – “Polymers for blood coagulation management”

dr hab. inż. Sławomir Boncel, prof. Pol. Śl. (Silesian University of Technology) – “Carbon nanotubes in biomedicine”

dr Maciej Guzik (Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences) – “Bacterial polymers in medicine”

The Forum took place as part of the InterNanoPoland scientific and business conference - an international forum for scientists, business owners, business environment institutions and students working in areas related to nanomaterials and nanotechnology. Subjects related to the application of science in the industry, the functionalization of materials and their usability in medicine, new developments in legal and ethical affairs, innovative research instruments and possibilities for the development of research projects were presented.
