The subject of research at the laboratory is focused on determining the influences chemical structures have on the properties of new materials, both of low-molecular compounds and polymers. These properties are the deciding factor in terms of possible applications in organic optoelectronics, photonics, and as advanced membrane materials.
The scope of research at the laboratory consists of synthesizing functional materials and investigating their advanced characteristics. The modification of obtained compound chemical structures is carried out in order to obtain the specific properties (optical, electrical, mechanical and separation) based on the principles of molecular and supramolecular engineering. These methods involve modifications made at the synthesis stage, as well as chemical post-modifications using the appropriate functional groups, and also physical modifications including the preparation of thin films, blends and heterogeneous materials, which contain appropriately dispersed molecular compounds, taking into account the method of their production.
An important aspect of the research is the application of selected compounds as components found in the active layers of photovoltaic cells, light-emitting diodes, as layers arranging liquid crystals, as well as materials exhibiting a photomechanical effect or used for the production of gas separation membranes, including those membranes in which separation and transport properties can be controlled by light.
