On 18 September 2015, the Center of Polymer and Carbon Materials of the Polish Academy of Sciences participated in the “XI Science Day", organized by: the Zabrze Municipal Office, the Cardiac Surgery Development Foundation and the Practical and Continuing Education Center in Zabrze. The aim of the event was the broadest and richest promotion of the activities of education, training and science and research institutions as well as firms, clubs and association not only from Zabrze, but from the whole region. The Science Day gives an opportunity to promote the fields that may seem difficult, unknown, and sometimes apparently uninteresting, in an interactive, friendly, unconventional manner among the city inhabitants, especially the school youth.
Within this year’s Days of Science, the employees of the Center conducted many interesting and effective chemical and physical experiments, entitled “Gain knowledge with us”, not shown in the previous editions of the event. These included, among others: fingerprints – playing a detective, frost in a glass flask, humidity absorber – meteorological station, extra absorptive polymer, fireworks in water - a colorful experience, a hungry solution/ caustic copper chloride(II), a chemical cocktail, a plasma generator, Jacob's ladder, or the Morse code. Those presentations enjoyed a lot of interest. In the competition for an interesting stand, the Center won the 2nd place among 40 exhibitors.
