On January 26, 2018, CMPW PAN employees organized a presentation of experiments related to the subjects discussed in the 7th grade in primary school. The presentation was attended by 7th grade pupils from the Adam Mickiewicz Primary School no. 7 in Ruda Śląska. Starting their education in chemistry and physics, the pupils visiting the CMPW PAN center were able to see real research laboratories, learn the specifics of scientific and research work, and see or conduct an experiment related to the phenomena discussed at chemistry and physics lessons.
The program of the visit also included a cycle of experiments titled "attractive chemistry", which attracted the most pupils.
On 21-22 November 2017, the ExpoOPAKOWANIA Packaging Fair dedicated to key technologies and solutions in the field of packaging materials was held in at Expo Silesia in Sosnowiec.
The CMPW PAN, in response to the invitation by the President of the Management Board of Expo Silesia, Eng. Ludomir Tyszyński, PhD, became a Technical Patron of the event.
On 22 November 2017, the second day of the Fair, the CMPW PAN organised a nationwide seminar "Contemporary packaging – development prospects".
The Committee for the Evaluation of Scientific Units assessed the scientific and R&D activities of scientific units for 2013-2016. The CMPW PAN received category A following a parametric evaluation.
The Centre of Polymer and Carbon Materials of the Polish Academy of Sciences, together with the Gliwice Branch of the Polish Chemical Society, published the book "Maria Skłodowska-Curie w Brazylii" (Maria Skłodowska-Curie in Brazil) in September 2017. The authors of the book are lecturers of Brazilian universities: João Pedro Braga and Cássius Klay Nascimento. The book contains information on the visit of Maria Skłodowska-Curie and her daughter Irena to Brazil in the summer of 1926 covered by the Brazilian media. It complements our knowledge about the life of the Nobel Prize winner.

On 7 October 2017, at Park im. Poległych Bohaterów in Zabrze, the CMPW PAN participated in a family picnic organised as part of the "Skarbnikowe Gody" event by the Municipal Culture Centre and the Municipal Office. The picnic was associated with the celebration of the 95th anniversary of granting urban charter to Zabrze. It is an event with a rich, long-established tradition, addressed both to the residents of Zabrze and to the residents of nearby towns. During the picnic, artistic workshops, educational programmes for fun, games of skill and demonstrations of chemical experiments took place. The employees of the CMPW PAN presented a series of interesting experiments to the guests and encouraged those willing to perform them together. The CMPW PAN stand attracted great interest, with the biggest impression made by obtaining colourful gel plastic masses.
In Czechowice, on 2 September 2017, the CMPW PAN employees participated in the 4th Silesian Picnic organised by the Parents' Club of JiM Foundation in Gliwice.
The Foundation helps children with autism and other neurological difficulties, while Clubs operating within the Foundation bring together parents of children with autism from all over Poland. The CMPW PAN employees carried out several chemical experiments, which were only one of the numerous attractions prepared for children and their parents at that picnic.

In short
The Center belongs to category A of scientific facilities in Poland. It was established on January 1, 2007 as a result of a merger of the Center of Polymer Chemistry of PAN in Zabrze and the Institute of Carbochemistry of PAN in Gliwice – two centers of the Polish Academy of Sciences which, for many years, had been conducting systematic work on the production and properties of macromolecular polymer and carbon materials.
