The Laboratory of Carbon and Polymer-Carbon Materials carries out research in the field of:
•    Preparation of new polymer composites with various carbon materials as nano- and microfillers  and determination of the interactions between matrix and filler particles dependently on filler's structure and the degree of its dispersion in the polymer matrix
•    Functionalization of well-ordered carbon materials to obtain mono- and multilayered graphene structures for application in polymer composites
•    Preparation and characterization of carbon foams from polymer wastes and by-products of commercial polymer production
•    Synthesis and optimization of process parameters for graphene and 3D-graphene structures over metal oxide supports
•    Preparation and physicochemical characterization of carbon nanomaterials (carbon nanotubes, nanofibres and graphene materials) and their hybrids with metals and metal oxides, as well as determination of relationships between their chemical composition and architecture, and catalytic and gas sensing properties.
Projects realized in the Laboratory are financed by the National Science Centre, National Centre for Research and Development and Foundation for Polish Science. The Laboratory cooperates with Polish and foreign research centers.

In short

The Center belongs to category A of scientific facilities in Poland. It was established on January 1, 2007 as a result of a merger of the Center of Polymer Chemistry of PAN in Zabrze and the Institute of Carbochemistry of PAN in Gliwice – two centers of the Polish Academy of Sciences which, for many years, had been conducting systematic work on the production and properties of macromolecular polymer and carbon materials.
