On October 7, 2022, the Centre for Polymer and Carbon Materials Polish Academy of Sciences participated in the "XVIII Science Day". This year's edition of the Science Day was organized in a revitalized space around the water tower built in 1909 at ul. Jana Zamoyskiego 2. The patron of this year's edition was the Silesian Park of Medical Technology - Kardio-Med Silesia and the Professor Zbigniew Religa Foundation of Cardiac Surgery Development. The purpose of the Science Day was to promote scientific and technical achievements among the city's residents, especially among schoolchildren, and to stimulate interests in an interactive, accessible and unconventional way, to encourage closer learning about areas that may seem difficult, unknown, sometimes - seemingly not very interesting. The employees of the Centre presented interesting and effective chemical and physical experiments.

On 17/03/2022, the Centre for Polymer and Carbon Materials of the Polish Academy of Sciences organized the conference The Silesian Meetings on Polymer Materials POLYMAT2022. The conference was dedicated to the memory of Prof. Andrzej Dworak, an outstanding scientist in the field of polymers, a long-term director of the CMPW PAN.

We had the honor of hosting an outstanding lecturers: prof. Brigitte Voit (Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research, Dresden, Germany), prof. Rainer Haag (Freie Universität Berlin, Germany), prof. Stergios Pispas (National Hellenic Research Foundation, Athens, Greece), prof. Axel Müller (Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany) and prof. Petar Petrov (Institute of Polymers, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia, Bulgaria). These scientists presented works thematically related to the scientific interests of prof. Dworak, which included nanomaterials with special properties, as well as their potential application.

The Centre of Polymer and Carbon Materials of the Polish Academy of Sciences was awarded a gold medal and a promotional emblem and the title of Innovation Leader 2021 during the INTARG® 2021 Fair.

During the 14th International Trade Fair of The Inventions and Innovations INTARG® 2021, which took place on June 15-16, 2021, the Centre was awarded a gold medal for the invention "Development of a new technology for the production of biodegradable vascular and coronary stents using the micro-injection moulding". The invention was created under the supervision of prof. Janusz Kasperczyk, head of the Laboratory of Polymer Biomedical Materials CMPW PAN, within the project "Technology for developing and obtaining the next generation of vascular stents through microinjection" financed by the National Center for Research and Development. American Heart of Poland S.A., with which the Center has been cooperating for many years, participated in its development.

https://www.scimagoir.com/rankings.php?country=POL&;ranking=
SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) is an international ranking of universities, institutes and companies that conduct research.
It is developed by Scimago Labs. Only those entities that published at least 100 works included in the SCOPUS database during the analyzed period are subject to evaluation.
Three indicators are analyzed in the ranking: research rank - based on bibliometric analysis of data from the SCOPUS (Elsevier) database,
innovation rank - based on the analysis of citations of publications of a given institution in patents, based on the PATSTAT database
and social impact ( societal rank) - indicates the presence of a given institution on the Internet.

In short

The Center belongs to category A of scientific facilities in Poland. It was established on January 1, 2007 as a result of a merger of the Center of Polymer Chemistry of PAN in Zabrze and the Institute of Carbochemistry of PAN in Gliwice – two centers of the Polish Academy of Sciences which, for many years, had been conducting systematic work on the production and properties of macromolecular polymer and carbon materials.
